Male Whores and Gentlemen

My cousin (who is more like baby sister to me) and I, had an interesting conversation yesterday. Now “M” I shall call her, is a twenty-nine year old nursing student on her final year. M, has been with one man only since she was seventeen and they are going strong. The conversation started this way:

“So like, what’s up with men?” she asked.

“What do you mean?” I replied

“I went out to a pub for drinks with another friend/nursing student yesterday, and she made the comment to the effect of; men want a whore in bed and a lady in public.” she said.

“What do you think about that notion?”

After conversing with her for a while and the conversation ended, the question still lingered in my mind for most of the day.

You never hear of women declaring that they want a male whore in bed and a gentleman during the day. At lease I haven’t heard of any women demanding one.

How come women are expected to become so diverse and men are not?

It occurred to me, that I discovered my dilemma.

Do they do mail orders on this type of guy?

Daniel Wesley Concert, Observations and Music

Its 10:32 to be exact and I just got up approximately fifteen minutes ago. I cannot remember a time when I slept in so late. I love it. My daughter spent the night over at her uncles and as much as I adore her to death, I am loving the solitude.

I didn’t get home until 2 a.m. last night. What I enjoyed was “finally” seeing Daniel Wesley last night. He’s really talented when he plays live and I enjoy a lot of his music (in which he writes a lot of). What I didn’t enjoy, was seeing the other looser bands for the first two hours of the concert. Let me confess heartily, that my ears are still ringing and I endured complete torture for most of the evening. Some might say that they put these bands on to make the main attraction sound good. But I would certainly not apply that to last night. The crowd, mostly filled with twenty-something year olds, were hardly enough entertainment to justify the crappy bands. My date and I didn’t drink so normally I find it interesting watching others consume astonishing stupid amounts of alcohol, pass around joints and then watch their antics. But not last night. I don’t know what it was. There seemed to be a lot of mixed vibes in the air. Looking around, I don’t mean this judgementally, but it appeared that the place was full of misfits. Perhaps it’s a “music thing.”

Though half of the crowd seemed to be enjoying themselves, a huge portion of the people walked around with a drink in each hand (which seemed almost constantly). I couldn’t help but take note that these people wandered about with a look of sadness and perhaps a bit of desperation. Here I am, at a concert, and I’m supposed to be enjoying myself and yet I really wasn’t. The only thing that kept me from virtually walking out of the place was Daniel Wesley. I don’t know, it must be age, but I was so bored my ass hurt and I kept falling asleep before Daniel Wesley came on. When Daniel did come on, it was painful to keep my eyes open. It wasn’t just me either- my date was doing the same and we laughed about it many times throughout the evening.

Because the evening was so long and drawn out, my date and I were starving by the end of the night. My date is not a very refined individual and I would have loved checking out one of the restaurants that close late in the a.m. along Granville street. Oh my God, Subway is so romantic (not). However, I was so hungry that I was grateful for any food so the Veggie sub sufficed.

Another thing: you would “think” women in their twenties especially in this day and age would know a bit of something about fashion or class. I’ve never seen so many fashion faux-pas in my life! Here I was, thinking I was most likely under-dressed in my jeans, Boulet boots and a t-shirt (I just couldn‘t gather enough energy to really dress up). Now I think I didn’t look half bad. And I’ll leave it there.

This was the second concert that I attended over at the Commodore Ball Room since they renovated. The first time was at the beginning of the year when I went to see 54-40 (I don’t have any interest buying their CD’s but they are an excellent band to see live- I really enjoyed them). I hesitate going back to the Commodore unless I really, really want to see a certain band or performer. I know its to be expected in concerts but they wait “SO” long to put the main act on and its torture for me. When I went to see ZZ Top, they only had one act before them: Charlie Major. At least he can at least sing and play. But the kids now and days consider these “other acts” their music and I suppose I should respect that. However, if I want to view an assortment of live acts, I’d go over to the Yale. There, amazing individuals linger about, wicked at playing the blues (and can actually play and sing). To each their own.

Next? The Orpheum Theatre and I’m going to take Caela with me. Classical music and or opera is calling to me. I’ll investigate what will be playing this Christmas.

(Oh my….I stupidly spelt D. Wesley’s name wrong! I’m sorry Daniel, I fixed it!!!)

Concert Going…

It has been a busy week.

Since last Sunday in fact.

Last Sunday I went to see ZZ Top, one of my top-five favourite bands. My God, for a bunch of seniors, they still play and sing like they were twenty. I purchased tickets so it would allow us (yes, I had a date with me) on the floor. I felt like I was twenty-something again myself.

Have you ever seen a joint the size of a Cuban cigar? First time I did. And holy crap, a bunch of fifty-something year old women were passing it around in the crowd. Up and down the isles this joint/cigar went on the floor. Then someone handed it to me. All I could do was show a disgusted look on my face, pinch it with two fingers (as in ewwww) and hand it to the guy on my left.

With a shocked look on his face he commented: “What’s the matter? It’s just a joint!”

“Are you crapping me?” I retorted. “There is no way in hell, I would allow that thing to touch my lips. Especially since a dozen people had already brought it to their mouths.”

Ewww.

The guy just looked at me with a bewildered look and shook his head as he brought the cigar shaped doobie to his lips to inhale from it deeply.

Jeezus. People are stupid.

Moving along, it was quite interesting people watching. I’ve never seen so many different types of people under one roof. Mostly people forty +. And lots and lots of biker types. It was very interesting to say the least. I felt like I was on a different planet.

Tonight I am going to the Daniel Wesley Concert at the Commodore in Vancouver. He sings the hit song, “Pilgrimage.” It should be good. He has a rustic, laid-back voice in which I like.

I’ll let you know how the concert went.

To Write or Not Write……

It has come to my attention that I need to write more. Poetry, short stories and the subject of autism is just not enough for me. I need to keep in with the flow you know? Not to mention it keeps my mind off of other things. I miss writing dearly.

200 Word Fiction

Standing about, I take notice how my surroundings are calm and composed. The backdrop outside is filled with variegated greenery and I absolutely love it. Almost as if in a trance, I am drawn towards the window. Taking note of the foliage shivering, my brow suddenly furrows. Gracefully, slowly, almost methodically slow, they entered the large, cleared yard. Twice as large as an Ostrich they were; and all black save for the bright red stripe that rounded their upper necks, matching a red stripe that ran across their upper beaks. Side by side the mates walked, until they were joined by yet another awing creature. Larger than the other species, it flounced in on scene, sauntering past the other graceful pair. Its black feathers were so fine and delicate, it floated like an aura around the creature revealing the colour turquoise that lay hidden under all the deep black plumage. Making its way to the middle of the yard, the solitary creature stopped and then descended to the ground like a snowflake. Slowly, the male Ostrich approached. Hesitating for only a split second, it decided to lay down alongside the other. They appeared to enjoy the temperate sun kissing them.

Poetry, Cont’d.

The night is now dark and all is so still.

Looking up into the deep firmament,
One lonely star dares to venture forth despite the lingering and ominous evening clouds.
Boldly it shines with an intention I could only dream of-

If only, if only.

The star within me could risk such fearlessness.

The night is falling and the evening is growing
The wind howls as if in protest.
The mottled dark sky gives way to shapes unknown
Some mysterious language known only to Gods.
Walking amidst the blustery winds
A one way exchange of some distant Owl is my only confidant.
And my soul feels renewed.
This is indeed a quick fix-
Then suddenly, I frown with concern about tomorrow.

Anhinga’s Meme…….

Oh, my goodness. I am indebted to Anhinga for the meme. It has helped me to grow out of the funk I have been in regarding writing for quite some time now. Well, I’ll give it a shot (no pun intended Anhinga!), lol.

1. I am no morning person. In fact, I’m really quite miserable upon waking up. If anyone bothers me before twenty minutes is up, I might have to kill them. My body requires that I wake up gently for at least twenty minutes upon waking in order to later function like a decent human being.

2. I am a true chameleon. I can pretty much adapt to any surrounding or situation. I can also be a complete “lady” or “tomboy” when I have to be (or both at the same time if necessary).

3. I absolutely abhor rudeness (or primitive, neadrathalic-like behaviour) from people. Especially when its not necessary or called for.

4. I absolutely adore driving fast. Its really bad, I know. I really need a hot-rod (a 1967 Ford Fairlane to be exact) so I can race on a quarter-mile track.

5. I don’t need friends to be happy in life. But its refreshing when I come along someone who is on the same wave-length as I am.

6. I’m fiercely independent. Have been all my life. I keep telling my boyfriend that he needs to dump me, but he wont listen.

7. I’m 42, but all the students at the school where I work in, thinks that I’m 30. Hell, I’m content with that. I’m very good at dressing like the girls in school without looking like (or becoming) an idiot. I’m very proud of the fact that I do indeed take care of myself…..naturally. I also have to thank mom and dad for the genes!

8. Sitting in silence, in nature, is for me, better than drugs or alcohol.

9. There is nothing more intimate like a passionate kiss. Not a wet, sloppy, gum-sucking ordeal!

10. I love my daughter more than anything in the world.

This was fun Anhinga- *wink.*

When you look at me like that,
I am no longer able to see you-

Behold,

The Divine is staring me down-
Burning me with incredible intensity.

Ohhh,

How is one able to survive with passion such as that?

Oh… my…God.

Burn me.
